Week 15 = I Hate The Sun!
May 7th, 2008
WARNING: Accutane is a serious drug that can have long term effects on your liver, skin, joints and more. Try the Acne Products out there first. We recommend Murad Acne Complex.
So this week was a special circumstance… I was engaging in some hardcore outdoor activities and was wearing a t-shirt… You will find out how absolutely horrible of a decision this was…
Breakouts: My face was doing soooo bangin on the 40 mg dosage of Claravis (Isotretinoin) version of Accutane. Everyday, I would wake up with clear skin and not have to worry about putting on make-up. I do have scars but, whatever, it’s not raging acne anymore (I am exaggerating with using the word raging, but you know what I mean). Anyway, long story short…what was I THINKING by not putting on sunscreen?
Lips: My lips are pretty much the same except, now, when I eat- they get dry. It useda just be if I hadn’t moisturized for a while that they would get really dry but now it is when I haven’t moisturized in like merely a minute. So, as I eat, I haveta re-moisturize…horrible, right? Really embarrassing…uugghhh
Dry Skin: Here is where that fateful day came to bite me in the ass. Since I didn’t put on sunscreen, my face didn’t burn…it just became really dry for the next couple of days. It was still really clear but then there are dry patches that were so hard to get rid of. It took a few days to get rid of it, but I did. I got a little rosy in the cheeks but no serious burn so yeah, once again, theory proven wrong.
Body: But here is where the theory is proven right… I didn’t wear sunscreen on my arms and, besides the intense farmer tan status I developed, I got jacked up. Not legit at allllll. My hands were a little dry and then I developed this ridiculous rash on my arms and hands from being so dry and irritated by the sun. It was horribly painful and obnoxious. I tried putting on moisturizer and sunscreen, after basically baking in the sun all day, to no avail… Misery, so much incredibly torturous misery. It legit took me all week to get my skin back to normal. It went from little dry skin patches to what looked like a rash to tiny little scabs alllllll over the non-hairy part of my arm and the upper part of my hand… So a) embarrassing b) painful and c) persistent… Weird how incredibly dry my body gets… SUNSCREEN!!!! I feel as though you can go in the sun, even if it is strong, as long as you wear a ridiculously strong sunscreen and be cautious. You can probably even get a tan. If it feels dry, however, then you best be getting out of there because it will probably turn out so much worse than it feels at the moment you notice it… Be careful, kiddies. Always be careful!
Love how the guy who took my blood didn’t do the pregnancy test. Thanks guy, you suck…I hate you. Gotta do that ish before I can get my next prescript! One more week this month…woot.
Also, I am loving all of the comments and the sharing of experiences…it really helps me and others! THANKS GUYS AND GALS!

Hi, I just wanted to say thankyou for sharing your experiences on this blog. I’m a couple of months behind you in the treatment, and it’s been really interesting and useful to read about your experiences.
I’m finding the dry skin and lips a challenge, but followed your advice on scattering lipsalve around my life has helped! Coupled with slatherings of E45 (I’m in the UK, don’t know if this brand name translates).
Looking forward to the end of the treatment and hopefully good results.
Thanks again ….

I just thought I’d let you know that Vilantae is a possible alternative for people who may not want to go through all this.

Ive got the same rash. I recognize it from your picture. Try a tea tree oil based lotion. It helped me a lot.
