I have just started using accutane today and I'm a bit nervous about the side effects. I'm praying I only get the minor effects or none at all.

thanks so much for your story. sad to see it end tho, felt like you were a friend of mine and soooooooooo funny! im thinking of getting on accutane too. i must be a late bloomer, almost 26 and have always been the pretty girl but for the past 2 years my face has started out with a few pimples in select areas to all over and disgusting. sad really. anywho, thanks for sharing. i pray my go at it will be as successful as yours. ive heard some bad ones but wonder if its really the medicine, or just that individual's circumstances that would have happend with or with accutane? e.g. suicide, manic behavior, ulcerative collitis, bowel removal, colostomes, etc etc.

Hey I am thinking about getting on accutane and I am going to be a junior in college. I was wondering if I could have your e-mail or anything and maybe I could ask you a few questions? This has been a terrible journey for me too so it would be great to have someone that could answer my questions

My favorite day time lip balm was the Natural Ice brand of SPF 15.

But like you, I used Aquaphor the rest of the time and at night.

Don't worry about the acne coming back. The side effects of the drug go away but the clear skin stays. I've been clear since my last pill in mid 2004.

If you do see any scars, use the Mederma "skin care for scars" cream. It stinks like onions but works well.

Congrats on the clear skin! That's so awesome that you schooled your derm.

I like the Vaseline intensive lip therapy too, but have you tried Aquaphor healing ointment. It's very thick and greasy so I only use it at night

Just found this web site while doing a search on Accutane. Thought I'd share my story.

I got acne late in life. I somehow got through my teens without it, but it hit me hard in my mid twenties, and on into my early 30s. I went to dermatologists, first with them using various benzoyl peroxide gels, tetracylcine, etc, until finally Retin A came out. I used it for about six months. Just made things worse.

Finally, I went into the doctor for a checkup and a refill of my normal scripts and the dermatologist said "If you can get a thousand dollars together, I can put you on something new called Accutane, and you won't need me anymore." This was about 1986 I think. Now of course, as you know, it costs more than that;)

Well I got the money together and went on it. My lips dried out, but other than that, I had no side effects. By about a week in, my face had really dried out (I have oily skin). I had breakouts on my back and shoulders. They started clearing up too. By six weeks in, I was completely clear. He took me off of it, and said if it came back, I might need one more six week course.

OK, that was in the mid-80s.

It is now 2008.

I have never broken out again.

If there was ever a miracle drug, it was Accutane for me. I have read of others who were not as successful, but don't let anyone tell you that this is not serious medicine. It DOES change your skin. To this day, my pores are different...I don't know...maybe smaller or something. But I don't break out. And it literally changed my life. I was always an OK looking guy, but whatever decent looks I had were ruined by this. Once it was gone, it was like getting a second chance at life.

So good luck, I hope you have the same success I did!
