4 Glorious Wonderful Horrible Amazing Delicious Months Are Over!

WARNING: Accutane is a serious drug that can have long term effects on your liver, skin, joints and more. Try the Acne Products out there first. We recommend Murad Acne Complex.
Chicka chicka yeahhh…4 months are officially dunzo!
Who’s proud? I’m proud! I stuck through this shiznit like a true warrior…
Looking back….ohhhh….
Breakouts: My breakouts have simmered down to almost non-existant status. I have officially recovered from that one miserable day in the sun and my skin is just rockin out. I get a pimple here and there but, if I put some sort of topical cream on it, then it is almost gone by the next day. I still have blackheads but my skin is as smooth as a baby’s bottom and it puts me in the best mood in the ENTIRE world! If I do breakout a little, it is near my hair line so I just cover that ish up with my hair…tee hee, sorry guys…Gotta go for the skater/grunge/surfer look in order to cover those puppies up…
Lips: Lips are RIDICULOUS… I really can’t help but pick at them and pull them off, which is effing HORRIBLE. I don’t know how to stop. I need mittens or something, jeez. I feel as though if I had any self-control than my lips wouldn’t be nearly the issue that I find them to be. If I don’t put on lip moisturizer the night before, I wake up with the ugliest looking dry lips you will ever see. So make sure to at least do that much every day. I talked to my dermatologist and he recommended, Vaseline Intensive Lip Therapy (I think that’s what it is, if anyone has heard of it/tried it please let me know!) Also, the 40 mg up in my dosage caused a considerable increase in dryness of the lips. I just need to learn how to control myself a little more and I prolly wouldn’t be stressing out as badly.
Dry Skin: Same level of dryness. Moisturize and you are all set. The only tricky area is around the mouth but I just try to stay on top of it (kinda a pain). Try to moisturize your legs and arms too cuz they are pretty dry (especially after I shave my legs)
Body: Nothing new. My mouth still gets pretty dry and I need to moisturize my lips when I eat but nothing new has come to my attention. EXCEPT that going off birth control was probably the best decision I have ever made in my entire life (besides going on Accutane / Isotretinoin / Claravis…whichever you want to call it). Now that I have finished my 4th month, I would have to say that I am looking pretty positively at the whole experience. I am really confident in my skin nowadays, a feeling I have never had before.
I went to the doctor and, guess what? He is pretty certain that I am going to be off after this next month! AAHH!!! That’s 30 more days and I am done!!!!! So pumped…On the down side, I have the worst dermatologist known to man so what he says pretty much means nothing to me…we’ll see, we’ll see… Make sure you research everything yourself cuz your dermatologist doesn’t know everything. Don’t get me wrong, you could get an awesome one that knows everything about everything but, in my case, my dermatologist was pretty much wrong about every word that came out of his mouth and I proved him wrong on numerous occasions (which made him bitter and an even worse dermatologist). So just watch out and make sure you know your shit before you blindly believe your dermatologist. And if yours sucks and your too lazy to look for your 10th or 11th one, just sit them down and show them who’s boss. Trust, they want your business and will do what you say, haha.
Furthermore, THANKS FOR THE COMMENTS, NINJAS!
Good Luck JJ from the
Josh, the only thing that I would recommend is not to start in the summer. If your skin gets better from the sun than just take the summer to enjoy it! Go out, party, go to the beach and have a carefree summer…Accutane will make it very unlikely that you will have much fun seeing as the summer is all about being in the sun and out and active…I vote start once school starts back up again and just take this time to chill and mentally prepare haha…good luck!
And as for you, Alex, you are a clown.

Hello, I was just wondering if you have experienced dry eyes? This is something my doc cautioned me about. I am only on day 5 but my lips are starting to be dry and I have had a mild headache since day 2. I am on 40 mg. per day too. Oh and by the way, you aren’t the only one to have major flare ups in the beginning! Yesterday and today my face has totally exploded (ok not that bad, but still). Ugh…this better work!!

i’ve been on accutane for almost two months now. my skin is getting smoother(thank god!) and things are looking pretty good. i have a question though, did you stop taking birth control when you were on accutane? i know the derm doc constantly reminds me of how important it is to take it.

Congrats on the clear skin! That’s so awesome that you schooled your derm.
I like the Vaseline intensive lip therapy too, but have you tried Aquaphor healing ointment. It’s very thick and greasy so I only use it at night
