2 Weeks off Accutane!
June 24th, 2008
WARNING: Accutane is a serious drug that can have long term effects on your liver, skin, joints and more. Try the Acne Products out there first. We recommend Murad Acne Complex.
So I ended my good and long journey with Accutane about 2 weeks ago, ugh huh ugh huh…
Breakouts: Since my departure from treatment, I wouldn’t even call it “breaking out” anymore. So I still get a pimple here and there (or a zit, whatever you crazy kids call it nowadays). I don’t have break-outs anymore where there are many little buggers all over the place, it all comes down to like one MAYBE two pimples if I break out…which I haven’t in like a week = ) My face is fantastical!
Dry Skin: My skin is not even that dry, to be honest. I probably have no need for the moisturizer but I don’t really wanna risk it haha. I have gone a night or two recently without putting on moisturizer and I have woken up with exactly the same skin I would have woken up with had I moisturized. That is kinda awesome cuz soon I can probably cut my morning and night ritual extravanganza time down by a bit by not having to put on moisturizer! Pretty cool, guys. Pretty cool haha.
Lips: My lips went 80% back to normal in what feels like overnight! I have been trying to pick at them (like I have been used to over the past 5 months) and I just can’t! They have stopped being so dry! I moisturize them maybe like 3-5 times a day instead of the usual 3-5 million. HOW AMAZING! I didn’t realize how quickly this shiznit leaves your system…I mean I don’t know if it totally has but my lips are almost completely back to normal, which makes my life a whole lot easier and less inconvenient. On an even MORE positive note: I am now in the habit of chapsticking my lips which isn’t a bad habit to have. Now my lips will be nice and healthy all the time = )
Body: I got kinda nervous that because my lips were getting better that it was exiting my system real quick and that I would go back to normal in EVERY way (including my face)! However, as you have read, this is not a problem so far! YEESSSSS…. Oddly enough, my back is still not back to normal. It hurts like hell. All the time. In horrible ways. Maybe my joints just need some more time to recover or maybe I am suffering of old age…or maybe I have some seriously overlooked back injuries. Either way, Accutane saved my life! I am confident about my face, all the time. That is a complete turn around from how I was before, let me tell you that much. I was always anxious and shy about the appearance of my face and now I am confident and don’t even worry about putting on make-up anymore. Could anything be better? Actually, yeah…one thing… If my period stopped being EXTREMELY irregular thanks to my going off birth control…that could be better. But, on the Accutane front, I have NO complaints. Now I just gotta worry about my scars…
LOVE YOU ACCUTANE! WITH ALL MY HEART!
Hey Wolv, that sounds awesome! You know, you are totally right. I noticed that I also started taking better care of my body once my face started improving, weird… Anyway, thanks for sharing your experience. I’m really happy for you!
Wow P, thank you so much for telling us about that! EVERYONE READ P’S COMMENT! I am so sorry that you had to go through all of that… Now that I am done, I truly regret not doing it the first time that it was offered to me. I wouldn’t have wasted all of these years as miserable as I was. I am overwhelmingly happy with my decision and I am sure that you will be too! Good luck!
Sid, thanks for commenting but what’s “lb boss”? Good luck too!
Thanks, baby!
Not to try to sell you ladies and gentlemen shit but there should be a free trial on this website for some Estee Lauder chapstick/lipgloss that is supposedly better than Aquaphor… Someone try it! That sounds super exciting haha, could anything be better? There is also a free Trial of something with Murad..along with some other cool products. Why not, guys? Get something free outta listening to me haha. Look at it this way, it’s like i’m PAYING you to read what I say…Just check some shiznit out and tell me if you like it…you just might!
Anyway, I really appreciate you joining me through my journey! It means a lot to me that I helped someone out! You guys also helped me out by responding and listening…thanks!!!!! Ok, enough with being totally corny… I WILL be back…L O V E

i just started my 4th month on accutane. im on 60mg of this stuff. i quit taking my birth control, its such a pain to remember to take. i’ll jus use self control instead lol. i’ve been using the cetaphil 24hr moisturizer, works great! and i’ve been washing with the cetaphil face wash, love it 2 bc it doesn’t dry my face out. i still have moments where my joints are hurting, feel like an old person, but i think its just a side effect. I’m always worried that when i’m done with Accutane that my face won’t be clear anymore…but ur doin’ really well so my fears aren’t as bad.

Oh I am so totally jealous! You look great!! My doc upped my dosage and while it seems that the rest of my body is totally drying up, my face is STILL breaking out! Worse than before Accutane even, This is only the end of my second month so we’ll see what happens. I’m glad you are happy with your results!

Just found this web site while doing a search on Accutane. Thought I’d share my story.
I got acne late in life. I somehow got through my teens without it, but it hit me hard in my mid twenties, and on into my early 30s. I went to dermatologists, first with them using various benzoyl peroxide gels, tetracylcine, etc, until finally Retin A came out. I used it for about six months. Just made things worse.
Finally, I went into the doctor for a checkup and a refill of my normal scripts and the dermatologist said “If you can get a thousand dollars together, I can put you on something new called Accutane, and you won’t need me anymore.” This was about 1986 I think. Now of course, as you know, it costs more than that;)
Well I got the money together and went on it. My lips dried out, but other than that, I had no side effects. By about a week in, my face had really dried out (I have oily skin). I had breakouts on my back and shoulders. They started clearing up too. By six weeks in, I was completely clear. He took me off of it, and said if it came back, I might need one more six week course.
OK, that was in the mid-80s.
It is now 2008.
I have never broken out again.
If there was ever a miracle drug, it was Accutane for me. I have read of others who were not as successful, but don’t let anyone tell you that this is not serious medicine. It DOES change your skin. To this day, my pores are different…I don’t know…maybe smaller or something. But I don’t break out. And it literally changed my life. I was always an OK looking guy, but whatever decent looks I had were ruined by this. Once it was gone, it was like getting a second chance at life.
So good luck, I hope you have the same success I did!

Don’t worry about the acne coming back. The side effects of the drug go away but the clear skin stays. I’ve been clear since my last pill in mid 2004.
If you do see any scars, use the Mederma “skin care for scars” cream. It stinks like onions but works well.

I have just started using accutane today and I’m a bit nervous about the side effects. I’m praying I only get the minor effects or none at all.
